Omaha Beach, Normandy, France D-Day June 6, 1944

The Allied Armies landed at five beaches along the Normandy coast. Four beaches were taken early. The U.S. forces landing at "Bloody Omaha" faced stiff resistance. The painting depicts the moment U.S. engineers finally blew up the German fortifications that had kept them pinned to the beach under withering fire all day. The D-Day invasion was the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany. The American Memorial is superimposed over the battle scene.
