Monticello, Charlottesville, Virginia

Dream home of Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, 3rd president of the United States of America, 1801-1809. Western expansion began under Jefferson with the Louisiana Purchase, 1803, and the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition, 1804 -1806. Jefferson chose Meriwether Lewis for his secretary, 1801. They were friends and Lewis spent many days at Monticello living a life of luxury, wine and fine food as they planned the Expedition. Vivid contrast to the life he would live as Captain Lewis of the Corps of Discovery.

Monticello is the only house in America on the United Nations Prestigious World Heritage list of sites to be protected at all costs.
