After 444 horror filled days, the 52 American hostages who were
illegally detained by Iran were released. On Tuesday, January
27, 1981, they were greeted in Washington D.C. by hundreds of
thousands who lined Pennsylvania Avenue from the Capitol to the
White House, where they were officially greeted by newly elected
President Reagan and Mrs. Reagan.
